Walls Fall

In the beginning...a pantry. Fridge to the left.

Remove the trim on the bi-fold door frame

We realize that the wine rack, which was over the fridge, has to go. For one thing, wine of the fridge struck as as a bad idea. For another, it was terribly dusty. For those of your who know my housecleaning standards, when something is too dusty for me...wow.

Grandpa is here. The wine rack is gone. The wall is coming down.

Dad hard at work.

The hole, roughly.

On Friday morning, while my mom took Henry to Lenny's class, and I took my shift as the lowest man on the totem pole and helpful finder of lost hammers, I said that if we removed the remnants of wall neatly by 10:30, we should remove this weird shelf in the corner of the pantry. The shelf was drywalled to fit something, but we have yet to figure our what. And so we finihsed about 10:15--certainly time enough to remove the shelf. We had an incentive to do so -- if we removed the shelf, the brown cabinet in the photos would fit into the hole.
I discovered it was fun to pound away at the drywall and when Henry returned home, I gave him the hammer to take a few whacks.

Henry loved smashing the chunks of drywall with the hammer.

Time to start building a wall. It was incredibly nerve racking to decide exactly how wide the door frame should be.

The framed door.

We got the bi-fold door on as after 1 trip the Home Depot (for advice) and 3 tried, we got it on the correct side and the opening to the out.
