Two posts in 1 day. A-ma-zing!
Henry has a new favorite drink.
1 part white grape juice.
+ 1 part sparkling water.
= "sparkling wine."
Official News
May 24, 2007
And it is official. We have purchased a new house. Our sojourn as freeloaders is over. It would have been sweeter if we could move in right away. But soon enough. It will be sweet, dude!
And I am much less grouchy today, so I can share my favorite email insult of '07 thus far.
"Oh then in that case, lame as email address. Original..."
It actually took me a minute to be insulted. I have resisted replying that she learn to spell or learn to use similes.
No better way to make me write
May 23, 2007
...than for me to write something that I will want to delete. Or at least write a post after this. The subtitle to this post should be "I don't like that school can still make Miranda cry." I feel like like a bad parent when Miranda cries at school. I used to feel embarrassed that she was wasn't getting into the mode. That she didn't just buckle down and accept the school paradigm. And now, I am mad at myself because maybe this isn't the right fit. Maybe she isn't right for this school, this philosophy, this Montessori education. If the cliche is that traditional school isn't for every learner, maybe the opposite is true too. The amusing definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. And I feel stupid right now.
I have a paradox that Miranda is doing quite well academically but school can still bring out the tears. She writes well. She is reading. She is adding 4 digit number and multiplying and is eager to learn division. She gets to work diligently. I don't get complaints from her teacher about time-wasting or slacking. But she still can cry over school in an instant. She still needs 7 hugs and kisses to go in the door. And the misgivings I've had for three years rear their ugly head when Miranda cries about school 3 weeks before it ends.
I've got a present for you!
May 22, 2007
First and most important: Happy Birthday Rob!
Henry has been enamored with present giving. That will come in handy today when we give Papa some good ones.
Henry will put the "present" behind his back and then say "I've got a present for you!" The present is usually a car or a pirate or a penny. The best was his just filled potty chair cup, needing to be emptied.
Let's hope Rob has no fear that his presents will be far better than that.
What are you doing?
May 17, 2007
Henry is running around with a yardstick. It has been a sword and a hockey stick. He holds it up to the wall.
Me: What are you doing?
Henry: I'm just measuring this wall.
And earlier this week, it was rhubarb harvesting time. Most of us love rhubarb. Rob tries valiantly, but it just doesn't speak to him. The kids are unsure--I mean what could be safe to eat that papa isn't willing to eat? My mom invited Miranda to come out with her to cut down the tall stalks.
Me: What are you doing?
Miranda: I'm gong to make weed pie.
Me: I've heard of weed brownies, but weed pie?
Short discussion with my mom about how Miranda thought the rhubarb plant was a tall weed.
Later, Miranda: I like weed pie. At least the part with the crust.
A very big day

(Said in your best Lawrence Welk voice.)
Today:
-
Henry has worn underwear all day. He has only had two small mishaps involving his bottom being too big for the potty chair. But no accidents. He is sleeping in his bed in underwear! This is the first day. I am so excited. And fully prepared for the accidents to follow.
-
He insists he is wearing panties and not underwear. Sorry Liz Harkins, if you ever find this. I am truly sorry.
-
On our way from the car to inside the restaurant, at the start of a big rain, Henry "Don't let the rain get at my hair. It will mess it up."
-
And from the weekend, when Miranda said to Rob: "Are you really? In that shirt? And those shorts?"
-
It's like we watch Bravo and the Style Network all day or something.
-
And since I am being random--a note to A in CA. We love "How I Met Your Mother." It has charmed us completely. Despite the desperate TiVo-less life we live, we watched the last episodes online.
- And loan commitment came in today. We are buying a new house in a week. And starting the long, slow, wicked and awesome move process shortly thereafter.
This should be a really long post to make up for not writing for more than 10 days

But it won't be. We are through the first move. We have had a hangover (mine I must admit), underwear follies, a daily morning running begun, TiVo withdrawal, refusals to go to class (Henry), DSL difficulties, three more people we know initiate the home selling process, tears, email frustrations, laughter, beer, and many many questions about where things might be. And if they are in boxes we can reach. And what to do when they are not accessible.
I thought the TiVo withdrawal would be worse, but the internet has made our lives better again. Wow. You can watch last week's show online, For free. Whenever you want. That has an impact.
