And the week that was
June 30, 2008
As I sit here and June winds down, the unborn one is kicking. That is nice. I have even felt her with my hand. We have 2 weeks until the next ultrasound. Let's hope the placenta has shifted to a more amenable position.
Picture time:
From 2 weekends ago--Rob's latest triathlon:

Rob lucked out--the water was shallow enough to swim-walk. A PR.

Crossing the balloon line.

We are the champions. Or he is. Or his co-worker M is.
Then we had a week. There was swim class and day camp and sports class and then a flurry of packing. Wedding time!

Our ring bearer gets into the game.

Ring Bearer, Father of the Groom, and Flower Girl (Henry, Grandpa and Miranda)

Mother of the Groom and Flower Girl (Grandma and MIranda)

Rob ushered, I read and the kids walked the aisle.
I don't feel quite as gigantic as this picture makes me look. But I am definitely feeling the pregnancy. And as painful as it is, I like to document life. And then when I post a picture in 2 months, it won't be a complete shock.

I really love this dress. It did not feel as tight in California.

The happy couple, Mr and Mrs K

The spoils from the candy table.

Miranda talked Rob into riding the Scrambler. Gotta love Bay Beach.

Henry and me on the train.

Next, it was graduation time for my cousin. He is not a horse, but his parents have several. As horses may be the animal I am most allergic too, I did not get close to them. But the kids got up close and personal.

We headed to Strawberry fest on Sunday. We did the kids area. Yay playground!

Bump update: We've hit 25 weeks. The baby is kicking, especially when I sit quietly after supper. We can't feel it from the outside yet, darn it. I alternate between feeling huge and just showing a bit.
Baby #3 is bringing out some weird conflicts for me: on one hand, we have lots of baby gear because this is #3. I know I don't need or didn't like some of the "necessities" as described by Babies R Us. On the other hand, this is our last child. My last chance to get some of those adorable things that _might_ be nice. On a third hand, my first two are so big now--some of my stuff is old. Like 7 years old. We've had a year plus without diapers. We've stored the useful stuff for so long. On the fourth hand, this is the last kid. So I really, will I get enough use out of the really nice stuff?
Like this diaper bag. I am swooning.
Damp
June 23, 2008
On the way home from swim class, Henry said to Miranda, "Can I feel your dam[p] hair?"
She tilts her head. He reaches out.
"Your hair is dam[p]ing" (which is not grammatically or phonetically correct, I realize)
I had this little giggle stuck in my throat. "Damp," I said, "dampppp. ppp."
"My hair is dam[p]," said Miranda.
Happy Birthday Grandma!

And many more!
Things I learned today:
1. It may only take 20 minutes to get to Rob's work, but it takes 30 minutes to get to the Y. And if you leave 25 minutes before Henry's class, you'll be late.
2. In parallel, when Henry's class ends at 10:30, and Miranda's swim class starts at 11, and it takes 30 minutes to drive between the locations...don't get stuck behind a slow moving farmer on a 2 lane road.
3. A Sports Galore class for 3-5 year olds? Don't send the kid in sandals.
4. If you take the little comb guide off of the flat iron, the flat iron works. Much better. A real "oh!" moment.
5. Despite living at the edge of the flood, when the power went out today for 3 hours, the water rose in the sump pump but it did not overflow. Hooray!
6. Having the baby kick makes me feel happy.
And I forgot
June 16, 2008
Well, one day in and I think I have hit our schedule targets. But I did forget that Rob's work has prenatal yoga and I can take the class. Which is sweet. But at 7:15 am on Wednesdays. Goodness that's early. And one more thing to juggles on Wednesdays.
Bonus Copy and Paste from an email I sent today:
At bedtime, Henry asked Rob if we were going to break-up. After several "Who's on First" type misunderstandings, I traced the question to Zoey 101. Two teen characters broke up. And that show is the root of all evil--it all starts with the Spears sisters. I usually like tween TV, but I don't think this show will make the rotation much longer. After that, Miranda asked him if he would make another baby after this one. (I was amused that he asked Rob if Rob would be making another baby. I was there; didn't ask me.) And we had this weird moment where we said we wouldn't be having any more children. But, we've barely explained sex. And contraception is just hard to explain without getting into sex. WIll I look back on this day and regret not explaining more about that? I suppose only if she follow the Jamie Lynn Spears example and is pregnant at 17.
About the next week
June 15, 2008
Our first two days of summer vacation were tiring. Miranda wished she were back in school at least once each day. I was surprised that neither child was drawn to the sandbox in the yard. Bike riding was fun, but resurfacing the driveway would be very high on Miranda's home improvement list.
And so, my camp urgency grew. I wonder if this will be too much, not enough or just right. Who knows, I may even check back next year when I get that same knot in my stomach. (Of course next summer, we'll have an ankle-biter instead of a slow and plodding pregnant woman to contend with.
Monday:
Henry has day camp from 10-12
Miranda swims at the local pool from 11-11:40. yes I am assuming I can pick her up at 11:40 and still make his class (~10 minutes away, I hope)
Tuesday:
I thought this week was empty, so I scheduled our medical appointments:
Miranda has an ENT follow-up at 9
M has swim at 11
M goes to the dentist at 2
Wednesday:
Henry has day camp from 10-12
Miranda has swim at 11
M has swim at the Y at 1 (or was it 1:45? Better double-check)
Thursday:
Henry has a Y sports class at 9:45 am
Miranda has swim at 11
Friday:
Henry has day camp from 10-12
Miranda has swim at 11
Henry has a dentist appointment at 2
The week after is pretty similar, minus the kid doctor appointments. I have an OB appt. And my brother is getting married on Friday. I would bet I'll forget at least one thing, I just hope the travel time work out.
And to Rob, Happy Father's Day. You're a wonderful dad.

For anyone concerned, we have not drowned in the great midwestern flood of 2008. We are doing pretty well, weather and water-wise. A wet spot on the lawn, a dry basement, a working well and electricity. What more can we ask for? We're going to the Dells for 4th of July--so we'll get to see the oddity that is now Lake Delton in person!
Miranda is riding her bike without training wheels. This is big news. It deserves ALL CAPS.

And Henry is riding his bike too.

Henry prefers the Hot Wheels.

We chose this parking lot for its flatness. But really, there was an incline that made scooter riding more fun than, I think, Rob expected.

And here is the belly at 6 months.
In other news, we have a door now!

What was just a window this morning, is now a walkway.

From inside! Now that we have a door, we can get inside far more easily.
In other other news, tomorrow is the last day of school. How did that happen?
Appointment with Helmets
June 8, 2008
It has been raining fiercely. We have escaped the flood conditions, but it has been very soggy. In the calm of the day, when the rain stopped for a few hours, we decided to buy bikes for the kids. The plan was Toys R Us. And that sort of worked, but Miranda was tall enough for a 20" bike. And in previous discussions, Rob and I agreed that Miranda would get a nice bike for her 20-inch, because she'll ride it for more than a summer. She liked a cruiser at TRU. And Rob and I both have a soft spot for Electra cruisers. And you get where this is going, right?
Henry was sweet enough to like the 16" bike on sale at TRU today. The new helmet we bought him cost more than his bike. The helmet may last longer.
Miranda had to ensure shopping--the worst case, shopping when we have done incomplete research. REI, Wheel and Sprocket, Extreme Ski and Cycle. Plus another shop that was closed. And then home, when I called several bike shops. We had our hearts set on an Electra. Miranda had her heart set on getting her bike TODAY! Turns out that many bikes shops don't open at all on Sunday. I wouldn't have guessed biking to be such a religiously-minded business. We found a great shop in Cudahy, South Shore Cyclery. There merits included being open on Sunday (1-5) and having an Electra Rosie, in stock, already assembled. Woohoo.
Rob had to head out into the evening rain to get training wheels. Miranda is on the cusp of riding without them. The next shot will have them cruising the driveway, I promise.

Rotation
June 3, 2008
So if you want to increase the fun of a Brewers Game on a cold June night, try this:
1. Go with a couple you know but not too well.
2. Have new parents out on their first non-baby date night sit in the seats next to you.
3. Decide to switch seats every half inning to better allow each person to talk to the other three people in various groupings.
4. Have delightful conversation. Watch Bernie Brewer slide down the slide. Eat peanuts and cotton candy.
5. Have all that seat switching confuse the new parents, confused to the point (plus beer) that they talk to strangers at a Brewers game.
6. Have the Brewers win! Their 5th in a row! Woohoo!
The seat switching seemed to give a random distribution rather than the expected equalized one, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

Happy Birthday W!
This weekend was birthday madness. We attended a joint birthday party for friends yesterday. They do know how to throw a bash. We planned to arrive early, at 4, and leave around 7-7:30. The children were having so much fun, we didn't leave until after 9!
Today, Rob ran a 5K and then the kids ran a 1/4 mile run for kids 4-6 years old. They each got a medal. Miranda is planning her trophy shelf. The festival crowd was light, the midway games were cheap and friendly, the food was OK. Summer is beginning. Yoohoo!
